Flashpoint in Ukraine provides insight into today's gravest geopolitical crisis since WW II. Possible global war looms. Viewed from the perspective of Western mainstream media; the crisis arose due to pro-democracy activists overturning a brutal dictatorship; which led swiftly to Russian incursion into Ukraine and annexation of Crimea. Viewed from the perspective of the 22 highly-credentialed analysts who have contributed to this anthology; it's an entirely different story; Obama's pivot is global; in pursuit of unchallenged worldwide dominance; leading to multiple direct and proxy wars. Neocon-dominated Washington seeks to marginalize its Russian and Chinese rivals; surrounding both countries with US bases. Ukraine is in the eye of the storm; the crown jewel of NATO eastward expansion; the last step in Washington's drive to incorporate all former Soviet republics and Warsaw Pact countries into NATO and install missile defense sites on Russia’s very border. To that end; the US has poured some $5 billion into "pro-democracy" NGOs which; counter to intention or not; were soon swept aside by neo-Nazi groups; and leading to the installation as President of former banker; Arseniy Yatseniuk; advance leaked as the unelected pick of Victoria Nuland; US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. While; as it is argued here; Russia did not invade Crimea and in fact has taken an extremely measured response with primary emphasis on diplomacy and ending the crisis; NATO; European and US spokespersons and media are seeking to dramatize and indeed resurrect a "Russian threat". Eastern resistance forestalls Obama's imperial project. The West appears willing to pursue it; at the risk not just of Ukrainian civil war and potential East/West confrontation but of global nuclear war. The flashpoint in Ukraine risks the unthinkable. This book explains what everyone needs to know; to get the world off the bandwagon to war. His claim is that the book is "An Academic Look at the United Kingdom's Matricentric Spiritual Past" and as that it fails miserably. He cites no historical; archeological; or anthropological scholarship to support any of his claims. His footnotes frequently do nothing more than point out his claims to be descended from famous historical persons (e.g.; "Tacitus 'of the red robe' is my 40th great-grandfather") or simply refer the reader to another of the author's works. The actual text of the book is only 83 pages of double spaced text; and with pages just under 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size that's not a lot of text. The remainder of the book consists of "A Note to the Reader"; a brief introduction; a list of the goddesses of the British Isles; a bibliography; and an index. This text would not pass as even a bachelor's thesis at any decent college or university; let alone as a academic dissertation arguing that the ancient peoples of England; Scotland; Wales and Ireland at one time venerated a feminine figure of a "Great Mother-Goddess; who gave birth to the Universe and all life; and who nurtures her children with her unconditional maternal love."0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Goddess AliveBy Kristofer UpjohnBrilliant in its simplicity; BRITANNIA RULES uses the structure of a brief etymological treatise to give a quick but enlightening and thoroughly engaging overview of ancient matriarchal-goddess society and its eventual repression and sublimation into the patriarchal religious culture of today. While the suppression of the divine feminine is a theme here; the book is not just about that. BRITANNIA RULES is not a harrangue.Rather; it’s a fascinating study of the numerous names; and their iterations; applied to the sacred feminine/goddess/creatrix/etc. And these lingual threads in turn lead us to understanding some of the cultural crossover from culture to culture and from era to era. There’s so much mashed into this sleek; compact volume; it’s almost like this book was the Tardis; with more inside that it’s package could possibly suggest. Wow.This is a fascinating and under-reported corner of theological studies; and Southern Advocate Lochlann Seabrook (who clearly writes of a diversity of topics) does a good job; all by his lonesome; of covering the subject from various angles with this and his other fine books on the subject.
