Although deeply political; economic; and social; the European Reformations of the sixteenth century were at heart religious disputes over core Christian theological issues. Denis Janz's A Reformation Reader is unabashed in its generous selection of key theological and related texts from five distinct Reformation sites. Along with plenty on the late-medieval background; the Lutheran; Calvinist; Radical; English; and Catholic Reformations are all well-represented here.Janz's selection of more than 100 carefully edited primary documents captures the energy and moment of that tumultuous time. The new edition incorporates a dozen readings by and about women in the Reformation; adds a new chapter on Thomas Muntzer and the Peasants' War; and adds illuminating graphics.

In an attempt to solve family mystery involving the U.S. Army 83rd Division; 329th; 2nd Battalion; this text has given me the details needed to find answers to a 70 year old unknown. A local Norman french historian suggested this book for its accuracy as well as readability. He was correct on all accounts. This is definitely the "go-to" resource for clarification of battle actions and to guide the amateur historian through the maze of documents surrounding World War II; European Theater.0 of 2 people found the following review helpful. LockwoodThis is a classic book; so it has been reviewed many times. It is the second half of two books which officially documented the Normandy invasion and the immediate aftermath; following "Cross-Channel Attack"; which I also recommend. It was nice to see that this edition did justice to the original; published by the US Army Center of Military History Army through the Government Printing Office. The entire 34-volume series of which this is a part were originally bound in Army green; and so are know as the "Army Green Book Series". You can even "shortcut" to a complete listing of the titles on the web by referencing them that way. If you are playing or interested in playing the relatively new board game "Memoir 44" and the online version (available only to purchasers of the board game) as I have; this is a very good reference source. I'm not connected with the company that published the board game; BTW; but I am a member of the Boardgame Players Association and will be playing "Memoir 44" at the World Boardgamers Championships.
