It features unpublished or previously neglected material; presents current research findings; and opens up a new perspective that raises further questions. Refreshing; bold; and intellectually in-your-faceBy Mariah SmithRefreshing; bold; and intellectually in-your-face; Walker's book is a must read for those interested in gaining a better understanding of our nation's longstanding history of racism; inequality; violence and oppression. I was incredibly pleased to find relevant pop culture references that contributed to the richness of the text. "Black as I Wanna Be" addresses controversial issues while shedding light on possible solutions; which is an element of activism that is missing from most discourses on racism and police brutality. Most importantly; this text shines light on the beauty of Blackness/Black culture; and the strength and resilience of Black people. This book is like no other and will leave you wanting more. If you do; be sure to check out Walker's previous work "The Madea Factory."1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. this his best book to dateBy M.ScottAs a fan of the author ; this his best book to date.
