Bill Slim (Command)

audiobook Bill Slim (Command) by Robert Lyman in History

Description

Contrary to popular opinion; the bulk of Islamic law does not come from the Qur’an but rather from hadith; first-hand reports of the prophet Muhammad’s words and deeds; passed from generation to generation. However; with varying accounts often only committed to paper a century after the death of Muhammad; Islamic scholars; past and present; have been faced with complex questions of historical authenticity.Informative and accessible; this wide-ranging introduction provides a detailed exploration of the collection and criticism of hadith and examines the controversy surrounding its role in modern Islam. Complete with a glossary; extensive bibliography; and helpful diagrams; Hadith is perfectly suited to students; scholars; and the general reader interested in this critical element of Islam.Jonathan A.C. Brown is Assistant Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies; University of Washington; Seattle. He is the author of Muhammad: A Very Short Introduction.

It does focus a lot on his actions in World War II but his early career is there as well. This is an Osprey book and is filled with pictures; maps; and drawings it is a high quality text. The shortness of the text is only meant to give the reader a introduction to the man. There are no controversies discussed here but the author is not unbiased in his treatment of the subject.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Well Written Quick Read BiographyBy A Movie BuffBill Slim was a low profile General who did not enjoy the spotlight of Bernard Montgomery; since his theatre of operations was distant. However the 14th Army under Slim was very successful in reversing the Japanese tide in the most difficult of terrain. The book in question is a well written biography of the man and the campaign and is well worth the read. Strongly recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
