Annie Sullivan Macy for herselfBy Lona HansenAnnie Sullivan Macy has always been overshadowed by the accomplishments of her pupil and friend; Helen Keller. Macy was a woman worthy of her own biography; not just for teaching Helen Keller. Macy was the survivor of crushing immigrant poverty; blind or visually impaired for most of her life; and often in limiting circumstances. She took Samuel Gridley Howe's techniques for teaching blind and deaf children to a whole new level of language fluency.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Serious readBy Laynette BarnardAs always I like to read about the lives of other people. Helen Keller is known by everyone; but generally no one knows anything about the other half of this famous pair. The book gives way to much information but it was still interesting. This was before we had government programs to help orphans and disabled people. The eye problem that Ann had would have easily been treated. The book is about two people and a lot of history about the late 1800's and early 1900's0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Four StarsBy Book LoverAn interesting book. I've learned a lot I didn't know about Helen and her teacher Anne.
