LamoreauxThis book utilized a wonderful narrative type to describe the action of a series of three less-known battles fought in the Atlanta campaign during the Civil War. Mr. Blount's prose had a "you are there" type of feel; but with enough detail that even the die-hard Civil War/War Between the States scholar can go away learning something. The battles that were fought in New Hope Church; Dallas; and Pickett's Mill; Georgia were among the hardest fought by either side during this arduous campaign; yet they have always rated less in the eyes of most scholars; until now. Although it does not cover the most minute detail; it does open the door for further study if one desires by utilizing the detailed footnotes and bibliography. I also found that the few maps found in this book offer a decent; but broad view of the "big picture" but would have enjoyed seeing some more detail featuring the regimental view rather than umbrella organizations. Overall; I enjoyed Mr. Blount's fine chronicle and look forward to further study of this campaign thanks to his direction.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
