DOC Anne Frank's Family: The Extraordinary Story of Where She Came From; Based on More Than 6;000 Newly Discovered Letters; Documents; and Photos by Mirjam Pressler in History

Description

In the spring of A.D. 587; John Moschos and his pupil Sophronius the Sophist embarked on a remarkable expedition across the entire Byzantine world; traveling from the shores of Bosphorus to the sand dunes of Egypt. Using Moschos’s writings as his guide and inspiration; the acclaimed travel writer William Dalrymple retraces the footsteps of these two monks; providing along the way a moving elegy to the slowly dying civilization of Eastern Christianity and to the people who are struggling to keep its flame alive. The result is Dalrymple’s unsurpassed masterpiece: a beautifully written travelogue; at once rich and scholarly; moving and courageous; overflowing with vivid characters and hugely topical insights into the history; spirituality and the fractured politics of the Middle East.

It was letters from family; but it dealt very little with Anne Frank or her immediate family; instead it concentrated more on her extended family - her paternal grandmother and aunt's family; the Elias. Not as captivating as I had thought it'd be; but still some very good information and background into the family.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Anne Frank's Family: Purchased at .comBy depAn incredible book! What led to writing the book is also an amazing story. In 2001 Anne Frank's last remaining relative; her cousin Buddy Elias and his wife Gerti found a treasure trove of letters; photographs; and other documents in the attic of the house they were living in. After sorting through the new found information; a book was written sort of based on the information; and also filling out in more detail what Anne Frank's family was like. This is a different way of looking at Anne Frank the person and beyond the legend she has become. I loved this book; it filled in many things I had always wondered about. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
