The Apostle Paul's reference to the tongues of angels (1 Cor 13.1) has always aroused curiosity; but it has rarely been the object of a history-of-traditions investigation. Few readers of Paul's words are aware of the numerous references and allusions to angelic languages in Jewish and Christian texts. John C. Poirier presents the first full-length study of the concept of angelic languages; and the most exhaustive attempt to assemble the evidence for that concept in ancient Jewish and early Christian texts. He discusses possible references to angelic languages in the New Testament; pseudepigraphic writings (both Jewish and Christian); the Dead Sea scrolls; rabbinic texts; patristic references; magical writings; and epigraphy. The discussion is divided between those witnesses that understand angels to speak Hebrew; and those that understand angels to speak an esoteric heavenly language.

An Epiphany in LilacsBy Susan RI read a lot of books about WWII and many are about the concentration camps. This is one of the first books that was about what happened after people were liberated from the camps. Many of them were still very sick; they were searching for their families but because Europe was in so much chaos; it was difficult to find family and friends and most people didn't know what to do or where to go next. This book - based on a true story - addresses that issue for one young man.Daniel was 14 when he was liberated from the camps. He was very sick and as he fights to get his health back; he is plagued with nightmares about his time in the camps and desperately trying to find his mother and his two sisters and to decide where he needed to go when he left the hospital. It was very difficult to go back to a normal day to day existence after all he had been through in his short life. This is a beautiful and well written book about the aftermath of a terrible time in our history. Even though it is Daniel's story; it was replicated thousands of times with the survivors of the concentration camps. Thanks to the author for sharing such a heartfelt story from her family's history. Thanks to goodreads for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is a beautiful; powerful storyBy Domi_BlueDaniel is a survivor of the death camps. A young boy only 14 years old; he is tortured by the experiences he lived through. He is slowly recovering physically and mentally from the hellish existence; with no knowledge of if his family has lived or died; he has a few friends he was with in the camps and some from the hospital. Yet; he still is very alone. Nearly dead when he was liberated; the young man recovers slowly and his memories tell the tale of life as a Jew during the holocaust. This is a beautiful; powerful story. As a Jew; I have read many stories of life during the holocaust; both fiction and non fiction. I very much appreciated the way this story was written. The author captured the beauty and pain in the life of this young survivor. With a respectful grace and a loving pen; the world depicted in this story brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. Daniel is an incredible character; surrounded by incredible characters. The world in this book is vivid and real. From the horrors of the death march to the beauty of the flowers in the garden; I was captured completely. Knowing this story was based on the life of the authors father may have added to the feelings the story evoked; yet the capable writing style and clarity made the story real to me.I highly recommend this story and will look for further works by this talented author. I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.5 out of 5 stars.
