America's Joan of Arc: The Life of Anna Elizabeth Dickinson

ebooks America's Joan of Arc: The Life of Anna Elizabeth Dickinson by J. Matthew Gallman in History

Description

Studies of African-derived religious traditions have generally focused on their retention of African elements. This emphasis; says Dianne Stewart; slights the ways in which communities in the African diaspora have created and formed religious meaning. In this fieldwork-based study Stewart shows that African people have been agents of their own religious; ritual; and theological formation.

I normally enjoy historically informative reading; but I'm slogging my way through this one. If you are hard core reading for information other than pleasure; this book is for you. I will finish the book; but was expecting something else less cut and dried.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Little Known AbolitionistBy Terri Bonar-StewartAnna Elizabeth Dickinson is one of my favorite historical characters. As far as I can research; this is only the second book about her. A different interpretation of her life than the prior book; Embattled Maiden. If you like stories of little known abolitionists; you will enjoy this book. Read both and make your own decision.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating Woman!By Robert VieiraWell-researched; although I would have like more direct quotations from her speeches.
