Terrific 46-Page Booklet on One of America's Greatest ActorsBy Andy Anderson aka Travis C.At 46 pages; this brief booklet will tell you much about the legendary actor. There is no time wasted in letting you understand at least part of the reason Poitier was unlike the stereotypical African-American. As an infant he spent his fomative years growing up in the Bahamas; although he was born in America; near Miami Beach. What especially intrigued me was his inability to act in front of Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. To learn how he adapted to his 'stage fright' you'll need to read this terrific publication; as I do not give spoilers. So; if you are interested in Sidney Poitier for more than reading his bio or his list of movies; I highly recommend American Legends: The Life of Sidney Poitier.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. if you loved his career read this bookBy Modupe HendricksThe book American Legends: The Life of Sidney Poitier provided an excellent insight into who the actor is and was. I have seen every movie; documentary; and TV program that Sidney Poitier made. I knew he was raised in the islands and I assumed he was a naturalized American; and did not realize he was born in Florida. This book is many quotations by him and shows many of the people that helped him further his career. I only have a minor complaint with the book; the night that Sidney Poitier was given his Honorary Academy award was the same night that two other African-American performers became the second African-Americans to win the Academy Award for Best Actor and Actress. Of course Sidney Poitier received his award while acting in much more wholesome movie. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Sidney Poitier career.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. With dignity; "Mr Tibbs" The Man.By Diana MangumSidney Poitier has been an interesting man and celebrity a very long time. Admired and appreciated by Black and White; etc. for his remarkable talent of making you believe he was that Character in the story. He has also given of himself to bring about social change and equality for the Black Race. Inspiring read...extraordinary man.
