In commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Korean War; the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Historian commissioned the Research Division; Air Force HisÂtorical Research Agency (AFHRA); Maxwell Air Force Base; Alabama; to compile this chronology of significant events of USAF military operations in the Korean theater. The chronology points out the relationship of these operÂations to the land battle; naval operations; and important political and diploÂmatic events. It also identifies such USAF historical "firsts" as the first all-jet air battle; the introduction of new weapons systems; and the initiation of tacÂtics; techniques; or procedures that had a major impact on later air operaÂtions. The chronology also identifies important people; including key comÂmanders; recipients of the Medal of Honor; and aces. Finally; it attempts to summarize those USAF events in Korea that best illustrate the air war and the application of air power in the theater. To present the information most effectively; the chronology offers narraÂtive monthly summaries followed by daily entries of significant events. Each daily entry uses the local date; which in the theater is one day later than the date in the United States. Two dates separated by a hyphen indicate that the entry covers events occurring from the first date through the second. Two dates separated by a slash indicate that the events occurred during nighttime hours. Each event includes an explanation of its significance or correlates to information in the monthly summary. The entries are based on primary sources available at the AFHRA; including organizational histories; intelligence summaries; digests; and operational statements of the U.S. Far East Command; Far East Air Forces (FEAF); Fifth Air Force; FEAF Bomber Command; FEAF Combat Cargo Command (Provisional); and the 315th Air Division (Combat Cargo). Sometimes; wing and group histories provided additional information. The researchers also consulted numerous secondary sources; usually to confirm the most significant events of the air war in Korea.

Very good book for putting a face on the songs I remember hearing from years ago...By Don KidwellThat's what I enjoy most about these books from Charles River Editors is that they provide brief accounts of individuals I had yet ever really met before. For instance I never knew Sam Cooke was one of the greatest African-American soul singers in the genre's history or the first to reach number one on both charts; pop and Rhythm Blues; yet I do remember the songs "You Send Me" and "Wonderful Life" and now know who sung them as a result. On a side note; it helped reestablish a connection with Jim Belushi whose profile was also written about by Charles River Editors (of which I reviewed earlier) and even had a song of Cooke's in the movie "Animal House". The account of his sudden death was simply mind-boggling making it good for that alone; but overall given the tighter editing and better photos provided I thought this book was a very good one and I do recommend!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Good Biography About a Lost; Talented; Breakthrough ArtistBy Joseph T FeganI still miss Sam Cooke' s wonderful voice from the 1950's. This book by Charles Rivers Editors gives an understanding of his unique talents; and is commendable in its objectivity regarding Sam Cooke' s human failings.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
