ebooks American Legends: The Life of J.P. Morgan by Charles River Editors in History

Description

It is an honourable characteristic of the Spirit of this Age that projects of violence and warfare are regarded among civilized states with gradually increasing aversion. The Universal Peace Society certainly does not; and probably never will; enrol the majority of statesmen among its members.

In fact it almost to the point Morgan was a good guy? That is far from the truth. Morgan was a ruthless; cunning; deceiving; heartless brutal business man! He was very successful in getting want he wanted and took no hesitation in trampling over anybody who got in his way. He would have very chilling personal about him. Ruled with an iron hand; very intimidating; thick skinned; took no nonsense from unions; cool daggered stirring eyes with a bad temper too. Make no mistake they were terrified of him. The most powerful man in America more so that any America President who could no control this man. What he had under his control of the America economy was quite staggering. Yes he did rescue the American economy three times! But he made for sure his rewards that he would take the lion share of it and to protect his own investments too! Yes he did spend large sum of money on art paintings; books; manuscripts and precious stones etc. But again this are only investments for the future and know only too well they will increase in value! Morgan success was due to good quick thinking of maths figures and planning ahead. Very good at gaining highly confidential information from others that could not get. Quite ruthless how he took control of companies to the point of making many bitter enemies in America. Where his banks; car; family and home are all under a attack and having to employ full time body guards to save his neck! You mention the Titanic ship if that was almost nothing? The International Mercantile Marine Company formed in 1902 in a tempt to dominate North Atlantic shipping trade; it was the worse financial disaster he was to ever face. The Titanic under White Star Line which he owned. Therefore he did own the Titanic ship too!Again we can see want happens when putting his own employees under huge pressure in trying to turn around a loss making company IMMC into profits. It may surprise you to know the Titanic was never ready for maiden voyage? She was late on delivery and over spent on budget. The pressure on the company Chairman and President of IIMC Mr Bruce Ismay and Captain E Smith was under was enormous. Its was no wander they made serious blunders with the iceberg contact! Morgan did not listen to excuses. It was all about profits from him; which he was not getting from IMMC? Finally the Titanic loss of 1500 lives was the wake up call for Morgan were he felt the guilt of the event and his heath would deteriorate quickly died within just one year of the Titanic sinking. 31 March 1913. Five years to the date that the Titanic knell was laid down in Belfast 31 March 1909. The book House of Morgan by Ron Chernow is a far better book of the life JP Morgan and can be brought through too!Mike.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good OverviewBy SarahI like this series because it introduces me to people and events that I don't know about. I have heard the name; J.P. Morgan before; but now I have an idea who he was and why he was such a big deal.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. J.P. MorganBy Brian BigelowA lot of great information. Very excellently researched. That being said it's all presented rather dryly. It really doesn't bring him to life as a person as a result I felt which is what I really wanted.
