American Ethnicity is a brief text that provides an accessible introduction to the dynamics of racial and ethnic relations. Key concepts and theories are summarized; and the authors develop a simple theoretical framework that guides the presentation of data on each of the prominent ethnic groups in America. As a result; this book examines each ethnic group from the same perspective; allowing students to compare the dynamics of discrimination against African Americans; Native Americans; Asian and Pacific Island Americans; white ethnic Americans; and Latinos. The sixth edition offers expanded theoretical framework through the inclusion of the Social Identity Theory.

Each essay tells an interesting narrative while blending in lessons on historical research: how psychology can be used; how paintings; documents; and photographs are analyzed; how models and theories can aid interpretation; and so forth. It's a solid introduction to the craft; but its not meant as a comprehensive work on historical methods. For having done exactly what it set out to do; five out of five.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. save a ton with this copyBy Customerthis is really interesting; missing a few chapters compared to the newest edition; but if you quickly compare you can figure out when you can borrow a friends... plus a new one costs like $100 and a little inconvenience to save $80 seems ok to me0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
