The history of the United States has been deeply determined by Germans throughout time; but hardly anyone has noticed that this was the case in the Southwest as well; known as Arizona/Sonora today; in the eighteenth century as PimerÃa Alta. This was the area where the Jesuits operated all by themselves; and many of them; at least since the 1730s; originated from the Holy Roman Empire; hence were identified as Germans (including Swiss; Austrians; Bohemians; Croats; Alsatians; and Poles). Most of them were highly devout and dedicated; hard working and very intelligent people; achieving wonders in terms of settling the native population; teaching and converting them to Christianity. However; because of complex political processes and the effects of the ‘black legend’ all Jesuit missionaries were expelled from the Americas in 1767; and the order was banned globally in 1773. As this book illustrates; a surprisingly large number of these German Jesuits composed extensive reports and even encyclopedias; not to forget letters; about the Sonoran Desert and its people. Much of what we know about that world derives from their writing; which proves to be fascinating; lively; and highly informative reading material.

15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. don't waste your moneyBy S. MoutrieAs an APUSH teacher I would NOT recommend this book. Even with the claim that it is to focus study for the exam the book is missing major points from the AP framework (which is what students are tested over) and even had a few incorrect descriptions of topics. The test taking tips section of the book has no actual tips for the AP test; the tips are general. Don't waste your money on this AP study guide.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Great Review Book! If you're looking to find one; this is perfect!By Gummy BunnyJust took my AP U.S. History Exam yesterday and I must say this book helped me out so much! Not only does it clearly explain the key events of american history but it also states why they're important as well. It also connects similarities and differences between events. I would highly recommend this review book; I walked into the testing room confident from the knowledge I learned from it!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Don't really have a online access!!By KristalAccording to the website's intro and title; the online crash course should as well being included. However; when I tried to access the code; it did not come out the way providing all the access. Instead; it asked for other payments.
