Verb Tense Index very handy; dense print; ready referenceBy Anna NoehreRequired text for Classical Tibetan Intensive course summer-2013 with Prof. Craig Preston. "Tibetan Verb Lexicon" includes labels to match Wilson's classification system; this linkage makes it a handy companion to Wilson's Translating Buddhism From Tibetan: An Introduction To The Tibetan Literary Language And The Translation Of Buddhist Texts From Tibetan. However even if Wilson's verb classes are not your cup of tea; "Tibetan Verb Lexicon" is a ready reference that pays for itself quickly in saved time. The first 30 pages offer a brief but useful topical discussion of classical Tibetan sentence-level grammar including inter alia special conditions for Sanskrit verbs in Tibetan; handling past tense; and identifying collocations. Those with linguistic grammar background will find useful the introductory section re: application of modern English grammar categories to classical Tibetan syntax. However IMO the best part of the book in addition to the actual lexical definitions is the Verb Tense Index. This index is a quick and convenient portable asset for the translator which is itself worth the cost of the book.Print quality is sometimes harder to read than a woodblock :) I need reading glasses and some might need a magnifying glass for the smeariest entries. Overall highly recommended and thanks to Paul Hackett for his labor in producing it! Those engaged in translating classical Tibetan into English will find that "Tibetan Verb Lexicon" well deserves a space on the translator's bookshelf.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Top-notch cutting-edge reference book!By Mr. NormanThis book is an indispensable companion to your reference library of Tibetan translation material. It brings together much of the latest work from many diverse approaches. A knowing companion that supplements and complements whatever material you may have on hand as a translator including the online THL Tibetan Dictionaries [...]For the pro as well as the amateur. It is probably not a beginners beginner's book; though.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy CustomerBook was in excellent condition
