With the moral stamina and intellectual pose of a twentieth-century Titan; this slightly built; duitful; unassuming chemist set out systematically to remember the German hell on earth; steadfastly to think it through; and then to render it comprehensible in lucid; unpretentious prose. He was profoundly in touch with the minutest workings of the most endearing human events and with the most contempible. What has survived in Levi's writing isn't just his memory of the unbearable; but also; in THE PERIODIC TABLE and THE WRENCH; his delight in what made the world exquisite to him. He was himself a "magically endearing man; the most delicately forceful enchanter I've ever known" - PHILIP ROTH

One more ranger bookBy Eddie WannabeeI do not know how it happened; but I ended up buying a large number of these kind of books about Vietnam; and for some reason the largest number were all about rangers. I usually prefer a variety of combat MOS; be that any branch of the armed forces; for I have found that all units have incredible stories to tell. There is not one branch of the military that I consider less than the other; but I must admit that the specially trained units; such as the rangers; always end up in the middle of the heaviest combat situations. I enjoyed this book; would not say is at the top of the heap where great writers and books are concerned; but it delivers a story line that is interesting enough to want to read on. The fact remains that these authors; who happen to be directly involved in the kind of conflicts one prefers to read about; and not have to face in person; are men of great courage; so all my respect and admiration for them is always in place. 3.5 Stars.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
