A Partisan's Memoir: Woman of the Holocaust

ePub A Partisan's Memoir: Woman of the Holocaust by Faye Schulman in History

Description

In 929 C.E.; the eighth Umayyad ruler of al-Andalus (Islamic Iberia) assumed caliphal titles and prerogatives. Against the ambitions of his contemporary rivals; the Abbasids and the Fatimids; he quickly reasserted Umayyad dynastic claims to the unique and universal leadership of the Muslims. As he and his successor promoted their legitimacy; they generated an ideology that infused and defined the political culture of al-Andalus. The Second Umayyad Caliphate recovers the Andalusi Umayyad argument for caliphal legitimacy through an analysis of caliphal rhetoric--based on proclamations; correspondence; and panegyric poetry--and caliphal ideology; as shown through monuments; ceremony; and historiography. This study of the tenth-century caliphates deepens our understanding of the political culture of the Iberian Peninsula at the height of centralized Islamic rule.

A Partisan's Memoir: Woman of the Holocaust: Purchased at .comBy depThis is the story of Faye Schulman; a partisan from the Molotava Brigade in Poland. Faye was a young teenage girl from a Jewish family in the town of Lenin; Poland. When Poland was attacked in 1939; the Russians took over the town instead of the Nazi's. In 1941 the Nazi's attacked Russia; taking over the town of Lenin. Thus; the suffering of the Jews began. The Jews were mercilessly persecuted and in May 1942 a ghetto was created in Lenin. In August 1942 most of the Jews of Lenin were shot and buried in mass graves which included most of Faye's family. After a warning from the partisan's that the few surviving Jews would also be killed; Faye and some others escaped to the woods. Eventually; Faye found a partisan group she could join. Being Jewish was automatically a strike against her; some of the partisan's knew she was Jewish while others did not. Obviously; being a woman was against her too. During her time with the partisan's she worked as their photographer and nurse; she also was assigned to go on resistance missions. I found this to be a wonderful book. There were so few partisan's that were women and that recorded their experiences or even lived to tell the experience. It also clearly showed what a murderous bunch of butchers the Nazi's were. Some of that information I had to skip around. An excellent read and a valuable piece of history.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Absolutely amazing!!By W.Ley5 stars for this amazing; well written personal memoir of the legendary Faye Schulman! I have had the honor to meet her in person as well and her story is amazing. There aren't many people in the world who would have been capable of the things she did. She is a hero; yet very humble. In this self written memoir she is very humble as well; but anyone who'll read it will be in awe for the things she survived; fought; accomplished and lived through!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A Partisans MemoirBy Peggy M. YorkHaving seen a photographic exhibit of her work in Seattle; I wanted to read about this amazing woman !!!! to have survived period; but to have been able to capture some of the war; The Nazi invasion of Polandto have protected her camera; her ability to develop some negatives in the forest and to finally stay alive fighting for several years without a home in Eastern Poland !!! the quality of the photos is remarkable.this woman does not boast; is not overwhelmed with bitterness. she just wants people to know what happened. I cannot imagine her life. she alone survived from her family in Belarus.I appreciate for it can make available and deliver unusual books. thank you so much.
