A History of Scotland: Look Behind the Mist and Myth of Scottish History

ebooks A History of Scotland: Look Behind the Mist and Myth of Scottish History by Neil Oliver in History

Description

The Indus Civilization of India and Pakistan was contemporary with; and equally complex as the better-known cultures of Mesopotamia; Egypt and China. The dean of North American Indus scholars; Gregory Possehl; attempts here to marshal the state of knowledge about this fascinating culture in a readable synthesis. He traces the rise and fall of this civilization; examines the economic; architectural; artistic; religious; and intellectual components of this culture; describes its most famous sites; and shows the relationships between the Indus Civilization and the other cultures of its time. As a sourcebook for scholars; a textbook for archaeology students; and an informative volume for the lay reader; The Indus Civilization will be an exciting and informative read.

There is enough detail to really give a sense of things but not so much that it bogs down most of the time. In few places the reverse is actually true; where perhaps a little more detail would be appropriate. But overall this is a good read and great way to get an overview of Scottish history.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Real history; real storiesBy Ron WebbThis is history written by an outstanding story teller. It is never boring; almost always accurate; and answers the real questions people have (like what actually happened to the Picts?). The treatment of economic issues and how people lived; and now live; is excellent. It provides both the long view and the short view. I was a history major in university; and continue to read many history books; this is one of the most enjoyable I have read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Scotland revisitedBy JoAnne V. McKaughanStill reading it but it is not dry and it is very informative.
