To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the holocaust in Hungary; renowned photographer Irén ÃÂcs collected photographs from her birth place of Szécsény and told her own story of a Jewish childhood in the Hungarian countryside to author Júlia Levendel. This book is a moving document of a lost world and a fascinating example of the possibilities of found photographs when accompanied by an appropriate commentary.

Some of the language is quite dated; and possibly offensive to the modern reader. (White Toughs and Yellow Toughs Meet the Champions of the World; Mohammedans). It does leave my kids wanting to read more about specific topics; which is a fantastic way to find their interests. The biggest problem I've had is with the edition pictured. I had no idea that it was missing chapters that are required reading for our history curriculum (History Odyssey). So; if you are needing to follow the HO curriculum; buy the other edition of this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hillyer's work is perfect teaching.
