First published in 1990; this encyclopedic yet highly readable work gives an indepth description of the Royal Navy in Lord Nelson's time. Filled with over four hundred illustrations; the book is divided into fourteen sections that deal with the design and construction of ships; the navy's administration; and life at sea. Other topics include shiphandling and navigation; gunnery techniques and fighting tactics; and a discussion of foreign navies of the day. Nelson's Navy is an important source book for the naval historian; a valuable reference for the enthusiast; and a revelation to the general reader.

Not just a trip in time; rather a way of lifeBy Landon H.A little spiritual as I have spent a little time in that back country.packing.One needs to take a trip in there so one gets the full understanding of how powerful and remote the country is;I very much enjoy the experiences the Authors had The book portrays real and live experiences; that one could only recognize if one had to survive in that sort of country. The different type of experiences and stories are hard to write so people understand; and the Authors did a very good job of relating their logs and putting them in to real time. I remembering riding down camas creek to the Flying B Ranch after the big fire way before the book was written and it was hard for me to believe any one could have escaped the fire. The book tells of what it is back in there. Truly wild country and no place for a greenhorn. A placed for only seasoned stock and people unless they are under the care of one of the ranches there. Something about the country just keeps drawing you to it.Unexplainable!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An Excellent BookBy Jeff a.A great read! Stories of adventure; comedy and history in the Idaho wilderness. The author and his wife lived in the middle of Idaho's Frank Church Wilderness for more than 20 years from the 1980s until 2010. Their ability to live and thrive in a rough environment with so few of our modern conveniences kept me turning the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great BookBy D. MichaelFantastic reading!! The thought of living in the rugged; remote mountains of Idaho like Jim and Holley did is a dream come true. Their dream told by Jim tells of adventures and learning that captures you. The stories are not only fun and enjoyable but also educational. The book is amazing reading and full of laughter that puts you there asking "I could only imagine"?
